ABOUT ME

Born and raised in Hong Kong, I was fortunate to grow up with parents who saw the value in sports and exercise. Over the years, my fitness interests have become more and more diverse, from studying Sports and Exercise Science at HKU, to representing Hong Kong in women’s rugby, and now more recently competing in Bikini Fitness competitions.

Jen Mackay

I believe in a holistic approach to fitness. Movement, nutrition, recovery and mental wellbeing all hold equal value and importance in leading a healthy lifestyle, with balance and consistency being the main keys to success.

My personal journey to living a healthy lifestyle began over a decade ago when I realised I had [guttate] psoriasis – an autoimmune condition where at least 80% of my body was flushed with an intense rash. I was super active and thin so I thought I was healthy, but it turns out that I was unhealthy in every other way possible.

My lifestyle habits consisted of fast food diets, insufficient sleep and toxic relationships, all of which fuelled not only my psoriasis but my depression too. This experience forced me to recognise that true health is not simply a weight on the scale or how you look. It is a state of being, both physically and mentally.

Over my several years as a personal trainer, I recognised that there was one common hurdle in each individual who struggled to reach their goals – self belief. We often forget that the decisions we make are always in our control. Instead we point our finger at work, relationships, travel etc. Regardless of our environment or genetics, we must understand that the power and control of how we live our lives and the road we choose to take lies within ourselves. It is up to us to take responsibility and create the reality we wish to live in.
